Upgrading to a king-size Nectar Classic bed was more exciting than being first-time homeowners. Our queen size spring mattress was more than a decade old and a purchase that was dictated by an entry-level job salary. My husband and I literally dreamt of a new mattress, but because we had a toddler and a pre-schooler we couldn’t fathom running around different retailers and showrooms testing out different beds. Who has the time for laying on a sample bed when you can barely catch z’s in your own bed? If, like me, you need a fool-proof bed that will last you years, then you don’t want to miss out on the Nectar mattress Prime Day deal—the mattress is over 15% off now through October 8.

For our search, we did what anyone who doesn’t have time to drive around town does—we opened up our laptops and started reading mattress reviews. Memory foam came up as the top contender and we took a chance on Nectar. It didn’t hurt that the mid-range price point is a sweet spot for something more premium, but still affordable. It was the best price for this category. (I’ll admit that I was nervous about spending close to a grand without actually testing the bed but you know what they say, “high risk, high reward!” And luckily this one paid off.)

Setup / First Impressions

Within days the Nectar showed up at the doorstep of our house. This was eight years ago, and the mattress was compressed in a long plastic case that we dragged into the house. Nowadays, a bed-in-a-box is de rigueur, but at the time, we were incredibly impressed at how quickly it decompressed into the bed of our dreams. I know I am playing around with the dream pun, but when you’ve slept on crummy spring beds for years, the Nectar memory foam difference is not to be understated. Like love at first sight, as soon as we slept on this bed it just felt right, as if we were destined for its quilted topper and their signature layered system.

The Specs

The memory foam has a knack for letting your body melt into the bed, but retains its medium-firm touch that suits side sleepers like me and my husband. (Though back sleepers are not going to complain either.) This worked especially well when I was reading in bed because I never felt as if my bum was sinking into the mattress and putting unintended pressure on my lower back. In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever had neck or back pain in the eight years I’ve had this bed.

In terms of motion isolation, that’s something I wanted in a bed since the day I saw that Tempur-Pedic commercial with a glass of wine that wouldn’t spill. Sleeping on the Nectar, I never felt bothered by my husband’s tossing or turning, or when my little kids snug into our bed in the middle of the night (and they are little tornadoes!).

The comfort was highlighted after I was away for a few days sleeping on random, not so comfy beds. Honestly, climbing into my Nectar was one of the most pleasurable things upon coming home after a vacation. It just feels like home.

When we moved across state lines, there was no question that we would bring the Nectar with us. The movers had no problem bringing it up. But when two years later I brought it downstairs because we were refinishing the bedroom floors, I had a mini panic attack because we couldn’t get it back up the stairs.

I didn’t realize that the stairway clearance was lower than the actual mattress. For a second there, I didn’t think the king size bed would fit. Thank goodness for memory foam because it is oh-so flexible and we were able to sandwich it and secure it with construction belts and bring it back up. Good thing too, because the mattress has a lifetime warranty and it would be a shame to waste it because of stairs.

I was back to styling my bedscaping in no time. The Nectar Classic also looks pretty good in the design department. The quilted top is padded just enough that the quilting doesn’t show up through a sheet set, even if it is something delicate like my Cozy Earth bamboo viscose ensembles.

The Verdict

I can honestly say that it is a perfect mattress and I have no qualms recommending it to anyone, but especially those looking for memory foam beds that focus on pressure relief. With this mattress deal, which can be applied to the bed bundle which includes an adjustable base or a bed frame, or even a headboard, you will get a high-quality sleep setup without going broke. If my experience is not enough to convince you, Nectar offers a 365-night trial and a Forever warranty. That said, I am off to bed.

FAQs

What Are the Best Mattress Brands on Amazon?

We love Amazon mattresses because some of the best products are also the ones that are priced just right. When it comes to the best mattress brands, you can find that Nectar, Leesa, and Casper offer competitive pricing while offering quality details like layers of soft, breathable memory foam. Affordable mattresses abound, including the Zinus Green Tea memory foam mattress that clocks in under $300 for a queen size and has more than 32,000 five-star reviews. Our tester contributor Jacorey Moon describes its head-to-toe pressure relief as being “cradled in clouds.” That’s a pretty good promise for a good night’s sleep, if you ask us.Tuft & Needle Original mattress is another top Amazon’s Choice. It has a firm, supportive core and a softer memory foam layer that contours to your body. According to reviewer Elise Portale, who has had it for four years, it is as springy and supportive as it was the first night. The T&N Mint mattress is not to be overlooked for its heat-wicking graphite and the cooling gel beads that are a must for hot sleepers. For those who can stretch their budget into luxury Amazon mattresses with a sustainable angle, Cariloha Resort mattress is a noteworthy pick. Lisa Aiken, senior vice president of commerce at Condé Nast, says the cooling mattress provides excellent structure and reinforcement along the edges and even in the center of the mattress, but still feels “very supportive and pleasantly soft,” thanks to the five-layer bamboo memory foam construction that’s also breathable.

Do I Need to Be a Prime Member to Shop on Amazon Prime Day?
