ROCKY MOUNT, Va. (WDBJ) – Three Rocky Mount vape shops are accused of selling illegal cannabis-related products, according to Rocky Mount Police.

Police say they executed search warrants Thursday, April 16 at three vape shops located within the Town of Rocky Mount as part of an ongoing investigation into the alleged sale of illegal cannabis-related products. The names of the shops have not been released.

The investigation began following citizen complaints dating back to October 2025, as well as a complaint from the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) Office of Hemp Enforcement, according to police. During the course of the investigation, undercover purchases were conducted at multiple locations, according to police.

Based on observations by undercover officers and preliminary field testing, officers identified products labeled as THC and THCA that are believed to potentially exceed legal THC limits under Virginia law, particularly when heated, according to police.

During the execution of the search warrants, officers seized numerous items including,

  • Products labeled as THCA, including pre-rolled items, vape cartridges, and edible products
  • Packaged green plant material labeled as THCA

All seized items will be submitted to the Virginia Department of Forensic Science for laboratory analysis, according to police. Police say the evidence will remain secured in the department’s property and evidence facility pending the results of that testing.

Rocky Mount Police say they will continue to work in coordination with the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office to determine any appropriate criminal charges. Additionally, the Office of the Attorney General will review the matter for any applicable civil enforcement actions, according to police.

Chief Young stated, “Our priority is to protect the safety and well-being of our community. Products that are unregulated and potentially harmful have no place being sold to our citizens. We will continue working with our state and local partners to ensure compliance with the law and to address any threats to public health and safety.”
