Topeka City Manager welcomes new electric vehicles to fleet

April 13, 2026

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – The City of Topeka has new vehicles headed to the streets, just in time for Earth Day.

City Manager Dr. Robert Perez visited Eye on NE Kansas to share information about electric vehicles recently added to the fleet.

The first one is getting outfitted with equipment and logos. It will be assigned to a city inspector. Another five will follow in the week ahead.

Perez also updated the timeline for finalizing the sale of Hotel Topeka. He said the Hotel Development Corporation will meet Tuesday to extend the due diligence period another month. He said this will allow additional time for talks with Shawnee Co. over improving Maner Conference Center. He added it will not delay the scheduled June 14 closing date.

Perez also reminded people about the budget feedback survey. The survey is open through Friday, April 17. Feedback from the survey will be reviewed by city leadership and the governing body as they work through the budget planning process. You can find the survey here.

Perez said city leaders face an estimated $15 million deficit in the 2027 budget.
