Town renews Power Options Program, extending stable rates and clean energy commitment thro
November 5, 2025
WESTFORD — The town has renewed its electricity supply contract through the Westford Power Options Program (POP), which will keep supply rates stable and provide the community with more electricity supply options.
The new contract through the Westford POP will ensure continued access to stable, competitively priced, and cleaner electricity for residents and businesses over the next three years.
New electricity prices will take effect for customers’ November 2025 meter read, and remain fixed through November 2028. The program renewal continues the town’s effort to provide local control, rate stability, and greater access to renewable energy options.
The current contract began back in January 2024 and is set to end this month on Nov. 30, with the new contract to begin on Dec. 1 and last through November 2028.
What the Program Does
Westford POP is an electricity supply initiative organized by the town to give residents and businesses “new, town-vetted options for electricity supply.” The program does not replace National Grid, but prices are expected to be lower than National Grid’s Basic Service.
National Grid will continue to deliver electricity, manage repairs and outages, and direct all electricity billing. Customers may opt out of the program at any time without penalty.
Since its launch in 2016, the program has helped Westford residents save approximately $14 million — or about $1,850 per typical household. That renewable power prevents more than 4.4 million pounds of carbon pollution each year, which advances the town’s climate goals.
New Prices and Options
The new fixed rates for the period November 2025 through November 2028 are:
- Westford POP Standard (default) at 14.742¢/kWh, which adds 10% renewable energy
- Westford POP Basic at 14.346¢/kWh, which has no additional renewable energy
- Westford POP Gold at 15.380¢/kWh, which is 100% renewable energy
All rates are expected to be lower than National Grid’s Basic Service at the time of renewal, though savings are not guaranteed since National Grid’s prices change periodically.
