I am behind on this — a reader had seen the notice on the building, though it was not on the original CB1 agenda for September. And now it is approved by the full board: a cannabis store called The Florist coming to 52 Duane, on the south side between Broadway and Lafayette.

*However* the shop does not appear on the state’s list of approved dispensaries, so either there is a lag or the application was rejected somewhere along the line. So in the meantime:

Empire Flower Inc., dba The Florist, had already received a conditional license from the state when they appeared before the Community Board’s Licensing Committee. The location does not seem to be close to any places of worship, nor other retail dispensaries. And while the resolution from CB1 does not mention the proximity to schools, I would have guessed that it is within 500 feet of the District 2 Pre-K Center at 52 Chambers — but if Google Maps is correct, it is 0.2 miles, or about 1000 feet.

The applicant said that the shop is going to sell cannabis AND flowers — so literal flowers and the smokable kind. (The blooms will be in the front of the shop.) Community Board members said the shop had to be diligent in its signage outside that it is 21 and up only.

The applicant agreed to the following hours of operation:
Monday to Saturday, 9a to 8p
Sunday, noon to 4p
