“I think it’s great. … He’s really trying to be more fair,” Trump said of changes at the outlet.

Bezos, who also owns Amazon, announced last month that the outlet’s opinion section would write daily pieces defending “personal liberties and free markets.” He said editorials “opposing those pillars” would prohibited under the new policy for opinion pages.

“At length, I talked to him about it,” Trump said, also acknowledging Democratic backlash against Bezos’s decision to overhaul the opinion section. “He’s a good guy. I didn’t really know him in the first term. … They actually did a couple of bad articles [about him]. He said, ‘This is crazy. I lose my fortune running this thing, and they … you know, they’re out of control.’”

The two men had dinner together the same night Bezos announced the changes to the opinion pages, Trump revealed, signaling a profound shift in their relationship. Bezos also attended Trump’s inauguration in January and previously dined with the president at his Mar-a-Lago estate in December 2024.

During his recent interview with Travis, Trump also referenced critics of Bezos and touted the shift of support he has witnessed from Big Tech since 2017. “He’s actually a very good guy, I got to know the second time. … If you look at the inauguration at the people that were up on that stage, there was a who’s who of a world that was totally against me the first time. So much different presidency, much more support.”

Under Bezos’s leadership, the Washington Post also announced in October 2024 that it would not endorse a presidential candidate for the first time since 1988. The outlet had previously typically backed Democrats and had reportedly drafted an endorsement for former Vice President Kamala Harris before scrapping the practice altogether.
