Turner cannabis shop owners boost security after two break-ins leave staff shaken

TURNER (WGME) — Two Maine teens have been accused of breaking into a cannabis shop in Turner, twice.

The two juveniles were arrested Monday.

45 Degree North Cannabis was broken into once in late April and again in early May.

“People are just really shaken by it, especially the level of violence, the way they broke in, the way they fled,” co-owner of 45 Degree North Cannabis Jeremy Nadeau said.

Investigators say the two people responsible for the break-ins are only 13 years old and 15 years old.

Their names haven’t been released but investigators say they may be involved in other burglaries and car thefts across the state.

“This is horrible, this shouldn’t be happening to people like this. It sucks because it’s our youth that is doing this, they are little kids,” shopper at 45 Degree North Cannabis Derrik Knox said.

Police say Monday five people, one adult and four juveniles, were taken into custody in Waterville after crashing an SUV during a police chase.

Investigators say the group was involved in a burglary spree in Hancock county, also involving cannabis shops.

Police determined two of the teens in the car also robbed 45 Degree North Cannabis in Turner.

They are charged with burglary, theft, aggravated criminal mischief, and unauthorized use of property.

The owners have added extra security since the break ins.

“It costs money but we have taken steps to protect our business from this happening again and there is basically protection there 24/7 now,” co-owner of 45 Degree North Cannabis Jeremy Nadeau said.

Nadeau credits his employees for keeping the store up and running, despite the break-ins.

“All of my employees called and I said just stay home well take care of it when we closed but they showed up and we got back open. It’s a pretty tight knit family over there,” co-owner of 45 Degree North Cannabis Jeremy Nadeau said.

The two suspects are currently being held at Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland.
