Two teens charged in string of burglaries at cannabis shop, firearms dealers in Maine

SOUTH PORTLAND (WGME) — A break in a major investigation has led to the arrest of two teens charged in a string of burglaries and thefts in southern Maine.

Some crimes took place at a cannabis shop in Turner, and three firearms dealers in Turner and Sabattus.

These surveillance cameras outside Northeastern Firearms in Turner captured video of two suspects trying to pry open two locked, steel doors in the early morning hours of March 13.

Earlier that same morning, surveillance cameras at First Due Firearms in Sabattus and G3 Firearms in Turner caught them using a tire iron to try to break in.

“They had tried and tried for about a minute,” Gage Jordan of G3 Firearms said. “And then that’s when the alarm had tripped. And then they, you see in the footage, they actually scooted away. They got away.”

In fact, steel doors and burglar alarms going off prevented burglaries at all three firearms dealers.

That’s when police say the suspects drove to this medical cannabis shop in Turner.

“First attempted to pry the door open,” Brent Fanjoy of Vacationland Cannabis Company said. “Couldn’t get through there, so they decided to smash the window.”

Fanjoy says surveillance cameras got video of the burglars backing a stolen vehicle up to the window, where they jumped in and stole what they could.

“Didn’t really seem to know what they were looking for, so I don’t think they had ever been in,” Fanjoy said. “Grabbed a bunch of merchandise, went back out. Actually made a second trip back in. Grabbed some more items and then took off in the stolen vehicle.”

Investigators also recovered evidence of burglaries in other communities that the teens face charges for.

“There were items in there that didn’t even belong to us,” Fanjoy said. “So they had burglarized other establishments as well.”

The investigation is ongoing.

Some of the business owners want to see the teens prosecuted as adults.

“Absolutely. I mean, they’re burglarizing multiple retail places. You’re talking firearms. Very dangerous if they got into any of those places,” Fanjoy said. “Big boy crime should get you big boy consequences, in my eyes.”

“They’re underage, so they’re not going to release their names,” Jordan said. “And they’ll probably get a slap on the wrist.”

The 16- and 17-year-old suspects now are being held at Long Creek. Investigators told business owners the pair have a lengthy criminal record and have been in and out of the facility before.
