Vesper Energy hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony on April 10, 2025, to celebrate the commercial operation of its flagship project, Hornet Solar. This event marked a significant milestone not only for the company but also for Texas, which continues to strengthen its position as a national leader in solar energy production.

Hornet Solar is located in Swisher County, Texas, and spans more than six square miles. With over 1.36 million solar modules installed, it stands as one of the largest solar projects in the country, capable of delivering 600 MWac of clean energy. The project is also expected to generate more than $100 million in new tax revenue for Swisher County, supporting local economic growth.

The ceremony featured guided tours of the project site, speeches by Vesper Energy executives, and opportunities for networking among attendees. Those present included Michael Clawson, Swisher County Judge; Elsa Carrasco, Swisher County Justice of the Peace; Mike Sims, Swisher County Commissioner for Precinct 2; and Mark Stover, Executive Director of the Texas Solar and Storage Association. Representatives from companies purchasing energy from the project, Vesper employees, landowners, and members of the local community also attended the event, highlighting the broad support for the project.

Construction of Hornet Solar began in the fall of 2023. In January 2024, Vesper Energy secured $590 million in financing to advance the project further. Since its launch, Hornet Solar has reached several key milestones, including the installation of its one-millionth solar panel in December 2024 and the completion of the final module in January 2025. These achievements demonstrate the steady progress and dedication involved in bringing the project to life.

Beyond delivering clean energy, Hornet Solar is providing significant economic benefits to Swisher County and the surrounding region. During the construction phase, the project created over 300 jobs. In the long term, it will contribute substantial tax revenue to essential public services, including $61 million for the Tulia Independent School District, $25 million for Swisher County, and $12 million for the Swisher Memorial Healthcare System. Through these contributions, Hornet Solar is helping to strengthen local infrastructure and support the community’s future development.
