The project combines solar and battery energy storage.

The Allan Labor government has announced its collaboration with Energy Vault for the battery energy storage component of the SEC Renewable Energy Park.

In a statement, Minister for the State Electricity Commission Lily D’Ambrosio said the company will provide 100-megawatt (MW), two-hour battery energy storage system (BESS) for the project.

This will support the 119-MW solar farm which can generate around 242,000 megawatt hours of renewable energy a year that can power 51,000 homes. It will also enable an additional 180 MW of new renewables to be connected to the grid.

Preconstruction works have begun on site in Horsham, with a target completion in 2027.
