“Sir, how much money have you put in here?” an officer asks.

“Chase Bank is on the telephone,” the man replies.

“No, Chase Bank is not on the telephone,” the officer responds.

The man had several stacks of money with him that totaled $60,000.

Authorities said the man had already lost more than $50,000 before police intervened and stopped him from sending more.

Police were tipped off when the man’s son noticed large withdrawals from his bank account and alerted officers.

Officials are warning that scammers try to convince people they are in trouble to get them to act fast.

“They created a sense of urgency to him, they told him they were from Chase Bank and that his bank account was compromised and some of the Chase Bank employees were in on it, so he needed to withdraw his money quickly to protect it,” Sunrise Police Sgt. Marc Rodriguez said.

The scam started with a pop-up window on the man’s computer and from there, the scammers sent him a link which he clicked on and gave them access to his personal information.

Police warn everyone to be on alert for callers who claim a loved one or your money is in trouble. They say to hang up and try to verify the phone number or call police to report it immediately.
