What to know about Vikings-Browns in London
Week 5 starts in North London at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium where the Vikings (2-2) and Browns (1-3) meet on NFL Network.
It’s be Carson Wentz vs. Dillion Gabriel today. The veteran Wentz is playing in place of injured rookie J.J. McCarthy. The rookie Gabriel is playing in place of benched Joe Flacco.
The Athletic‘s beat writers Zac Jackson (Browns) and Alec Lewis (Vikings) are in London to cover today’s game. The rest of The Athletic‘s beat reporters will have coverage of today’s games in the early and late windows.

Q4 00:07 – Vikings 21, Browns 17
Dillon Gabriel found Isaiah Bond for 22 yards but it could be too late for the Browns.
Vikings take lead late in London
Q4 00:25 – Vikings 21, Browns 17
After sitting in the first quarter, Jordan Addison comes up with what could be the game-winning 12 yard touchdown catch.
Justin Jefferson’s 21-yard catch here has the Vikings in position to win this game late.
PHILADELPHIA — One matchup to watch as the Broncos face the Eagles today comes opposite the Courtland Sutton-Quinyon Mitchell battle. Broncos wide receivers Marvin Mims Jr. and Troy Franklin have both had their explosive moments this season. Can Sean Payton get them favorable matchups against Eagles corner Kylee Ringo, who is starting in place of Adoree Jackson?
The Broncos in general need a reliable No. 2 target to step up in a big way today. Perhaps that’s tight end Evan Engram, who has yet to find a consistent groove in his first season in Denver. Maybe the Broncos can get running back RJ Harvey (four catches, 40 yards receiving in Week 4 vs. Cincinnati) can be an outlet for Bo Nix.
But Mims could be particularly important given the opportunity he could have with his matchup. The Broncos are 5-2 since the start of the 2024 season in games that feature at least 40 receiving yards from Mims.
Q4 02:00 – Browns 17, Vikings 14
The Vikings are on the move as the Browns’ defense tries to hang on for the win.
Q4 03:05 – Browns 17, Vikings 14
It’s been a day for Vikings star WR Justin Jefferson, who has six catches for 102 yards. He could feature heavily on this drive.
The Browns were tied for the league lead with eight turnovers entering Week 5, including three last week in their loss to the Lions. With just over three minutes to play, they have zero today.
Dillon Gabriel has been mostly efficient in his first start, throwing for 146 yards and two touchdowns. He has a chance to lead Cleveland to its second win of the season on this drive.
Q4 03:19 – Browns 17, Vikings 14
The Browns will be trying to take as much time off the clock as they can here. Carson Wentz wants another shot at the lead for the Vikings.
Will Reichard had been perfect with field goal attempts this season, but that 51-yard shank sails wide right. Minnesota get the ball back on their 20-yard line with less than seven minutes on the clock.
Browns running back Quinshon Judkins goes over the 100-yard rushing mark for the first time in his short career. Even with all the QB drama in Cleveland, he’s been the one consistent out of the backfield.
Wide right for Vikings!
Q4 09:41 – Browns 17, Vikings 14
Will Reichard‘s 51-yard field goal for the tie goes right and the Browns maintain their lead.
Whisper it quietly, but we could the 61,082 crowd here be witnessing the smallest slice of history? This is the 60th regular season game in London and 11th at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The lowest scoring game in England was the 20-0 thriller between the New Orleans Saints and the Miami Dolphins at Wembley in October 2017. The lowest scoring at THFC – the Vikings’ 23-17 win over the Jets this time last year. Hold on to your hats… (edited)
One thing I’m watching in this Colts-Raiders game is how much Indianapolis wide receiver AD Mitchell plays after his huge blunders in last week’s loss to the Los Angeles Rams. Mitchell celebrated too early on what should have been a 76-yard TD reception and fumbled through the end zone when he was showboating. He was also flagged for holding on an awful blocking attempt that erased a 53-yard TD run by star running back Jonathan Taylor.
Colts coach Shane Steichen was noncommittal when he was asked directly if Mitchell would play this week. Instead, he repeatedly stated that Mitchell had to “earn it.” However, since starting wide receiver Alec Pierce will miss his second straight game due to a concussion, the Colts may be forced to turn to Mitchell even if they don’t really want to. But if Indianapolis is committed to punishing Mitchell, it could still lean more on veteran wideout Ashton Dulin than. Even though Dulin is a core special teams player, he has prove to be more reliable in the passing game than Mitchell.
Browns get Mohamoud Diabate’s fumble recovery
Takeaway on first down is the best way to change that.
Colts inactives vs. Raiders:
- WR Alec Pierce (concussion)
- QB Riley Leonard
- CB Kenny Moore II (Achilles)
- RB Tyler Goodson (groin)
- LB Buddy Johnson
- OT Luke Tenuta
- DT Eric Johnson II
WR AD Mitchell is active. I’m curious how much he plays after HC Shane Steichen was noncommittal about him playing this week.
END Q3: Browns 17, Vikings 14
The Browns have a fourth-quarter lead. Can they hold off the Vikings in London?
Dexter Lawrence active for Giants
NEW ORLEANS — DL Dexter Lawrence is active for the Giants after missing practice all week with an illness. Seventh-round TE Thomas Fidone will be active for the first time of his career, and he’ll likely get some special team snaps here. There aren’t any other surprises as the other Giants inactives are: QB Jameis Winston (3rd QB), ILB Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles, RB Tyrone Tracy, OL Evan Neal and DL Elijah Garcia.
Ravens inactives vs. Texans
BALTIMORE — The Ravens’ inactive list Sunday against the Houston Texans includes seven starters and six returning Pro Bowl players.
Quarterback Lamar Jackson (hamstring), fullback Patrick Ricard (calf), middle linebacker Roquan Smith (hamstring) and cornerbacks Marlon Humphrey (calf) and Chidobe Awuzie (hamstring) were all ruled out Friday.
However, the Ravens have also de-activated left tackle Ronnie Stanley (ankle) and safety Kyle Hamilton (groin). Jackson, Ricard, Smith, Humphrey, Stanley and Hamilton were all selected to the Pro Bowl last year.
Cooper Rush will start at quarterback in place of Jackson and Joseph Noteboom will replace Stanley at left tackle. Defensively, the Ravens could start as many as five rookies with outside linebacker Mike Green, inside linebacker Teddye Buchanan, cornerback Keyon Martin and safeties Malaki Starks and Reuben Lowery all expected to play significant snaps.
Cornerback Jaire Alexander is active for the Ravens for the first time since he struggled in a Week 1 loss to the Buffalo Bills. Running back/kick returner Keaton Mitchell is also set to make his season debut.
The Texans inactives are quarterback Graham Mertz; wide receiver Braxton Berrios; offensive tackles Trent Brown and Jarrett Kingston; linebacker Christian Harris; and cornerback Zion Childress.
Panthers inactives today
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Carolina Panthers enter Sunday with the fewest sacks in the NFL with two. But at least they’re get their two starting edge rushers back against the Miami Dolphins.
D.J. Wonnum (hip) and Pat Jones (hamstring) return after missing games in recent weeks (Wonnum was sidelined for one game, Jones for two). They will try to breathe life into a pass rush that has a league-worst 1.7 percent sack rate and generate some pressure on Tua Tagovailoa.
Four of the Panthers’ six inactives were already ruled out: RB Chuba Hubbard, TE Ja’Tavion Sanders, CB Chau Smith-Wade and DT Tershawn Wharton. LB Claudin Cherelus and DT Jaden Crumedy were healthy scratches.
Rico Dowdle, who ran for 1,000 yards last year at Dallas, will replace Hubbard.
