Police seize 149 cannabis plants after tip-off
Merseyside PolicePolice have seized about 150 cannabis plants from a property in Wirral following a tip-off about suspicious behaviour.
Merseyside Police said they discovered a suspected cannabis farm at premises on Wallasey Road in Liscard at about 22:30 GMT on Tuesday.
The electricity supply at the property had been tampered with, a force spokesperson added.
Matt Brown, from Merseyside Police’s specialist Cannabis Dismantling Team, said: “Cannabis farms are a magnet for fire, flood and violent crime, and each one removed makes our communities safer.”
‘Gardening equipment’
He said tampering with electricity supplies “creates massive risks to anyone living or working nearby”.
Officers also seized equipment from the property, which has now been made safe.
Inquiries into the cannabis farm are continuing, he said.
Merseyside Police did not reveal whether any arrests had so far been made.
Police said signs of cannabis cultivation can include:
- Strange smells and sounds
- Frequent and varied visitors to a property, often at unusual times
- Gardening equipment such as plant pots, fertiliser, fans and industrial lighting being taken into a property
- Sealed or covered windows with curtains permanently closed
- Heat from an adjoining property
- Birds gathering on a roof in cold weather
