WOOD COUNTY, Ohio (WTVG) – A new, multi-million dollar Meta data center is coming to Wood County.
Meta, the parent company of Facebook, is building a $800 million data center in Middleton Township that is expected to be completed in 2027. Representatives from Meta, Bowling Green State University, the Wood County Economic Development Commission and other state and regional entities made the announcement in Bowling Green on Wednesday.
Brad Davis, Director of Community and Economic Development for Meta, said the location was the perfect choice for the company — offering access to infrastructure and renewable energy, a strong pool of talent, and strong community partners.
He said the facility will support 100 operational jobs. Around 1,000 construction workers will be hired at the height of construction of the data center. The company also hopes to source construction materials locally.
Davis said the company designs data centers with sustainability in mind, so its electricity usage will be matched with 100 percent renewable energy.
“Our mission is to build the future of human connection and technology that makes it possible,” David said. “We want to make sure we’re creating a positive impact at the local level.”
Once the data center is up and running, Meta will launch its community action grants program to partner with local schools and organizations to “put the power of technology to use for community benefit and improve STEAM education,” Davis said.
After the data center’s first year in operation, Meta will give Eastwood Schools $900,000 annually for 15 years.
That outreach also extends to small businesses and non-profits. Meta said it plans to offer free digital skills training to local organizations.
Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine said the Ohio is shaping the future of the data-driven digital economy.
“Northwest Ohio’s talent pipeline and strategic location will create an environment where Meta, and the other technology companies they attract, can thrive while bringing new opportunities for our regional workforce and their families,” DeWine said.
