What To Watch This Weekend: New Shows And Movies To Stream On Netflix, Hulu, Prime Video, Apple TV And More
March 14, 2025
This weekend came at me fast. Usually, I have a pretty good sense of what’s about to release on all these myriad streaming services, but the last couple of days I keep getting surprised. Wait that’s out already? Oh, I thought that was next month! I blame the snow. We’ve finally gotten a couple heavy winter storms here in the mountains of the southwest, and that’s thrown me off my game. Or maybe I just like having something to blame.
In any case, we’re catching up now and remedying this. Every week, I head out into the wilds of the internet and go over all the various streaming services to find all the best (and sometimes worst) shows and movies for you to watch over the weekend.
If you have any tips or I missed something, shoot me a message on Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook. You can check out last weekend’s streaming guide right here.
What’s New & Notable This Weekend
Adolescence (Netflix)
This looks excellent and has quickly shot to the #1 spot on Netflix thanks to its strong cast and fascinating gimmick. The story follows the case of a teenage boy accused of murdering a classmate. It’s only four episodes long, but each episode is filmed in one shot. That’s a solid hour-long single-shot episode, each following a different aspect of the case at a different time. The 100% Rotten Tomatoes score also doesn’t hurt.
The Wheel Of Time — Season 3 (Prime Video)
I was so disappointed with the first season of The Wheel Of Time on Amazon Prime Video, but the second season was quite a lot better. Turns out, fantasy shows on Amazon that aren’t titled The Rings Of Power can learn from their mistakes! I’ve only watched the first (72-minute!) episode of Season 3, but I found it quite gripping and intense. If the rest of the season is this good, we’re in for a treat—an actually decent live-action fantasy series!
Dope Thief (Apple TV)
I’ll be diving into the first episode of Apple’s new crime thriller this evening. Dope Thief follows two thieves who pose as DEA agents to rip-off drug dealers. Think Omar from The Wire only these two end up robbing the wrong dope house. The irony here, of course, is that one of the dope thieves is played by Wagner Moura, who starred as Pablo Escobar in Netflix’s Narcos—speaking of the wrong people to rob.
The Electric State (Netflix)
The Russo Brothers have had a few major hits in the past, including Avengers: Endgame, but their Netflix track record is spottier. The Electric State, which boasts quite a sprawling cast of big names including Chris Pratt and Millie Bobby Brown, is flatlining with critics (17%) but audiences seem to be enjoying the post-apocalyptic sci-fi movie a lot more (69%) and it’s bound to be a big hit on Netflix.
Long Bright River (Peacock)
A police procedural about a police officer named Mickey (Amanda Seyfried) investigating a series of murders in a Philadelphia neighborhood teetering on the brink of collapse thanks to the opioid crisis. This has gotten mixed reviews, but if you’re into crime dramas give it a shot. The entire season is out now on Peacock.
Yellowstone Season 5, Part 2 (Peacock)
Yellowstone aired on the Paramount Network several months ago and now it’s finally available to stream on Peacock. This odd release structure is thanks to the fact that Paramount didn’t have its own streaming service when they made the rights deal with Peacock. Other Yellowstone-adjacent Taylor Sheridan shows like 1923 and 1883 all stream on Paramount+.
Bill Burr: Drop Dead Years (Hulu)
I’m a big fan of stand-up comedian Bill Burr and he has a brand new special out on Hulu this weekend. If you like Burr’s crass, profanity-laden brand of humor give it a shot.
Daredevil: Born Again (Disney+)
No, this is not new this weekend. Daredevil: Born Again has been out for a couple weeks now but I keep forgetting to include it in my guide for some reason! So I’m including it now. Charlie Cox returns as blind lawyer, Matt Murdock / violent superhero Daredevil in a followup to the Netflix “Hell’s Kitchen” superhero shows. Jon Bernthal also reprises his Punisher character here. Other familiar faces from the original series also return including Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page and Vincent D’Onofrio as Kingpin.
Novocaine (In Theaters)
You’ll know him better as Hughie from The Boys, but Jack Quaid is an altogether different kind of superhero in Novocaine, the story of a man—named Nathan Caine, lol—who can feel no pain and sets off to rescue the girl of his dreams from kidnappers. Much fighting ensues.
What I’m Watching Weekly
Severance Season 2 (Apple TV)
I’m a little sad that the second season of Severance is almost over. So far, it’s not been as good overall as Season 1, but it’s still a remarkably solid second season with only a few hiccups along the way. The latest episode just came out and sets the stage for a wild conclusion. Read my recap/review here.
Yellowjackets (Paramount+)
I’m not sure how to feel about Yellowjackets these days. I want very badly for it to be amazing, but it’s just not. The tone has shifted from a dark and mysterious and often quite dreadful story of survival and paranormal fear to . . . a campy, drawn-out mess. There are, however, some pretty interesting twists and turns this season including in the latest episode when something very unexpected happens with the teens in the woods.
The White Lotus (HBO / Max)
It’s definitely a slow burn this season, but Episode 4 was my favorite so far and it’s clear that things are about to get completely out of control. Our various wealthy tourists are entangled in far more than they realize, as criminal elements circle, revenge is in the cards, and a gun goes missing. I’m so excited for this one each Sunday!
Reacher Season 3 (Prime Video)
I’ve finally written my review of Reacher Season 3 so be sure to give that a read. It’s a pretty good season—vastly better than Season 2, but still not nearly as pitch-perfect as the first. The chemistry is off even if the story is less preposterous.
Invincible (Prime Video)
I’m still catching up on Amazon’s excellent animated superhero show Invincible, but the word on the street is that the Season 3 finale was the best episode of the series so far, so that’s good news. Just be aware that this is not a kids show. It’s incredibly violent, but also very well-written.
The Pitt (HBO / Max)
The Pitt is a fantastic new medical drama that is in some ways a spiritual successor to ER. It also uses a clever gimmick, giving us one hour of the ER shift per episode similar to the spy thriller 24. You can read my review here.
Dark Winds — Season 3 (AMC)
I adore the Tony Hillerman novels that Dark Winds is based on the. The mysteries follow Navajo police officers Joe Leaphorn (Zahn McClarnon) and Jim Chee (Kowa Gordon) as they investigate murder and other crimes on the Navajo reservation in northern Arizona and New Mexico. The third season is already off to a great start.
Beyond this, we have both 1923 on Paramount+ and The Righteous Gemstones on HBO/Max, as well as House Of David on Prime Video which I keep meaning to watch. What else did I miss? What are you watching these days? What should I put on this list or add to my backlog? Let me know on Twitter, Instagram, Bluesky or Facebook.
