Wildlife Day encourages residents to get outside & care for the environment

September 24, 2025

NEW YORK (WBNG) — The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and Department of Environmental Conservation, or DEC, are encouraging residents to participate in Wildlife Day events on Saturday, Oct 4.

In celebration of Wildlife Day, conservation service projects and educational workshops are taking place across the state.

Volunteer opportunities include planting native species, removing invasive plant species, building bird and bat houses, and cleaning up trash and debris from local parks and recreation areas.

Parks & Trails New York Executive Director Paul Steely White said, “The health of our state depends on the vitality of the wildlife that call New York home. By protecting the habitats that sustain everything from eagles and turtles to the smallest pollinators, we ensure that future generations can experience the same wonder and connection to nature that inspires us today.”

Wildlife Day is part of the Love Our New York Lands stewardship campaign, a series of themed public service events that encourage volunteerism and highlight the state’s outdoor recreation assets.
