Will Mass. regulators approve the public consumption of cannabis?
The plan proposed would allow consumers to purchase marijuana products and consume them in the same space.
Regulators at the Massachusetts Cannabis Commission will meet on Friday to discuss the framework for allowing social cannabis consumption in the state, among other agenda items.
The plan proposed would allow consumers to purchase marijuana products and consume them in the same space.
The proposed regulations that were approved in July allow for three types of social consumption licenses: a “supplemental” licese, which would allow existing marijuana businesses like retail stores to offer customers to use their purchased products on site, a “hospitality” license that would allow use at new or existing non-cannabis related businesses like theaters, and an “event organizer” license which allows for temporary on-site consumption for events.
Under the current plan, for the first five years, the licenses will only be available to applicants who qualify for the CCC’s social equity or economic empowerment programs, microbusinesses and craft marijuana cooperatives.
More regulatory changes are possible before a final vote, which the Boston Globe reports is expected Friday.
