Yakima bear relocated into habitable environment
April 28, 2025
YAKIMA, Wash.–A bear was relocated after wandering into a person’s backyard.
Sunday morning, the Yakima Police Department received reports of the bear nearby, and the animal was found in a tree, according to YPD Public Information Officer Yvette Inzunza. The Department of Fish and Wildlife was contact to help relocate the bear.
DFW immobilized the bear with a dart before trasnporting the animal to a suitable habitat, which cannot be disclosed for the bear’s safety, said Becky Elder, Department of Fish and Wildlife Police communications manager.
Elder said the bear was a prime candidate for relocation because there were no prior incidents of the bear getting into trash cans or looking for human food.
Often times, if a bear looks for human food, it will continue searching for human food. Elder said in this case, the bear seemed to just be looking for natural food sources and was relocated for human safety
