During the medical cannabis dispensary license lottery in December, a Lexington-based company which will operate out of Franklin County, was one of 12 applicants selected to receive a business license. A total of 48 initial licenses have been issued.
Canntucky Ventures LLC was chosen through a random number generator at the drawing, which was held at the Kentucky Lottery Corporation. The for-profit business was organized by Divina Capellupo, state business records indicate.
According to the Kentucky Medical Cannabis program’s dispensary directory, Canntucky Ventures LLC will be located on Lot 1-D on Democrat Drive.

A dispensary license allows its holder to sell medical cannabis products from its location to registered, qualified patients, designated caregivers and visiting qualified patients. Additionally, all medical cannabis products must be acquired from a licensed cannabis company that has passed all tests required by state statute.
Financial commitments associated with dispensaries include a $5,000 non-refundable application fee; $30,000 initial licensing fee; $30,000 annual licensing fee; and $150,000 in capital requirements.
Currently, medical cannabis is not yet for sale in Kentucky and no dispensaries are open.
There are four types of medical cannabis cards available — in-state registry ID cards; minor patient registry ID cards; designated caregiver registry ID cards; and visiting patient registry ID cards. There is a $25 annual fee.
Those with the following conditions qualify for medical cannabis:
• Any type or form of cancer, regardless of stage
Trending
• Chronic or debilitating pain, epilepsy or any other seizure disorder
• Multiple sclerosis, muscle spasms or spasticity
• Chronic nausea or cyclical vomiting syndrome that has been proven resistant to other conventional medical treatments
• Post-traumatic stress disorder
• Any other medical condition or disease that the Kentucky Center for Cannabis determines.
