BYD overtakes Tesla in key overseas markets
In April, BYD sold 13,000 electric vehicles in the UK and became the country’s No. 1 electric vehicle brand by registration volume, with a market share of more than 7%, ahead of Tesla, Volkswagen, Kia, and other multinational automakers. In the same month, BYD sold 15,000 vehicles in Brazil, surpassing the Volkswagen brand. This marked the first time a Chinese brand had outsold Volkswagen in Brazil’s monthly overall retail auto market. In Australia, the BYD Sealion 7 delivered 1,780 units, outselling models including the Tesla Model Y.
BYD exported 135,000 vehicles in April, up 70% year-on-year, breaking the export record it had just set in March. Its cumulative exports for the first four months reached 454,000 units, with overseas sales accounting for more than 40% of the group’s total sales. The company is also accelerating overseas localization: with plants in Brazil, Hungary, and other locations coming on stream, BYD’s annual production capacity outside China will exceed 800,000 units. Meanwhile, it plans to deploy 6,000 flash-charging stations overseas by April 2027, including 3,000 in Europe, with the rest covering ASEAN and emerging markets.
Joyson Electronics forms solid-state battery joint venture targeting embodied intelligence
Joyson Electronics has recently established a joint venture with Enpower for solid-state batteries for emerging intelligent agents, focusing on power energy markets for emerging intelligent agents including embodied robots. The two parties will jointly carry out product R&D, production, and market development.
Specifically, the newly established Ningbo Junen New Energy Company will focus on the innovative R&D, production, and sales of power energy solutions for embodied intelligent agents. It will first tackle solid-state battery technology for embodied intelligent agents and build an integrated energy system solution combining battery cells, BMS support, and data services to meet embodied robots’ higher requirements for endurance, safety, and lightweighting. Prior to this, Joyson Electronics had already launched embedded and backpack-style battery packs, as well as a chest module solution integrating an embodied intelligent agent controller and an energy management system. Enpower, for its part, specializes in the R&D and industrialization of high-energy-density solid-state battery technology, and said its all-solid-state batteries will achieve small-batch mass production in 2026, with embodied intelligent agents to be the first application field.
