MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – Gov. Kay Ivey awarded a $400,000 grant to the city of Tuskegee for infrastructure work tied to a new automotive supplier plant expected to create 187 jobs.

Tuskegee will use the money to support industrial development for the new plant. The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) is administering the grant from funds made available by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The project will be located in Tuskegee Commerce Park near the Samkee auto parts production plant that opened in 2024.

“This is another big step forward for Tuskegee and Macon County in establishing a strong presence in the automotive industry. This development will offer jobs for people of all skill levels in the industry,” Ivey said.

The Community Development Block Grant will fund the infrastructure needed for the $163 million manufacturing facility being built in Tuskegee by CPT America. CPT America is a new company that will produce stamped metal components and assemblies for auto manufacturers.

The city will use the grant to extend water and sewer infrastructure to serve the plant. The initial development will be a 350,000-square-foot facility. A potential second phase would add 700,000 square feet.

“A development like this brings multiple benefits for a community, including higher wage jobs, an expanded tax base and more demand for retail and other businesses in the area,” ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell said.

Ivey notified Tuskegee Mayor Chris Lee that the grant had been approved. The city will contribute $263,466 to the project.
