Marion drug bust nets 12 lbs. of cannabis, khat and a gun, police say

MARION, Ill. (KFVS) – The Marion Police Department served a search warrant in the 1000 block of W. Chestnut Street on May 28, following an investigation into an illegal marijuana operation.
Police said the search led to them finding a significant amount of drugs.
During the operation, police said they seized more than 12 lbs. of marijuana that was shipped to Marion from the Bronx, New York. Officers also said they found more than 1,200 grams of khat, a Schedule 1 controlled substance, along with U.S. currency and one handgun.
Ali M. Zubaidi, 31, of Marion, was arrested as a result of the investigation. Zubaidi was taken into custody and charged with cannabis trafficking, possession of a controlled substance and possession of cannabis by a driver.
Several pounds of kratom were also discovered inside the home, according to police. Currently, within the city of Marion, kratom is illegal to sell but not to possess.
