Shopping for groceries on Amazon can cut your bill — here are our top finds

April 20, 2026

For years, I only used Amazon for clothing and last-minute household items, not everyday groceries. I’ve got a tight budget, and I assumed I’d find the best prices for those at the grocery store.  I  pushed my cart down the aisle, comparing prices on cereal boxes, spices, and snacks, because I believed it was the only way to save money. It never occurred to me to check prices on Amazon.

That changed accidentally. I wanted almond flour for muffins, but the store prices were so steep I was tempted to abandon the project altogether. On a lark, I searched for it on Amazon, and found a three-pound bag was $5 less than at the grocery store. I was hooked.

Since then, I’ve made a habit of restocking certain pantry staples through Amazon. The difference isn’t pennies. In some cases, it’s several dollars per item. Over time, those savings add up, especially for products I buy on repeat.

I still do most of my shopping elsewhere. But there are now specific groceries I rarely, if ever, buy at the store anymore because I know I can get them for less on Amazon. These are the ones that consistently cost less.

Blue Diamond Almond Flour

Almond flour is a versatile pantry staple. I use it as a flour substitute in cakes, muffins, and brownies, and as a coating for fish or chicken. It’s also low-carb and packed with protein and nutrients.

Rao’s Homemade Marinara Sauce

Ina Garten is famously a fan of Rao’s. After hearing her recommend it, I finally started using it myself, and keeping a high-quality pasta sauce is a game-changer for last-minute company or lazy dinners. My local store often sells out, but when it’s back in stock, it’s at least $1 more than on Amazon.

Wild Planet Sardines

Walmart and grocery stores usually charge over $4 a tin for King Oscar mackerel. I save a nice chunk of change by buying a 12-pack on Amazon instead. I eat them for lunch every day because they’re a great source of protein and Omega-3s.

Starbucks Coffee

I can’t function without my morning coffee. Luckily, I’ve found that Starbucks is significantly cheaper on Amazon. I often pay $10-$20 less for K-Cups than I would at Walmart or my local store.

Canned tuna

Starkist Chunk Light Tuna in water sells for $1.29 a can at my local grocery store. I save money by stocking up on Amazon, where a can is usually under $1. It’s great for salads, dips, or a quick, healthy snack.

Spices

I’m amazed at what they charge for spices at the grocery store. I avoid the high prices and get garlic powder and other staples delivered for around a $1.

Nutella

I always keep Nutella in my pantry to spread on a cracker or apple slice when I want a quick treat. A 13-oz jar runs about .50 less on Amazon than it does at the grocery store down the street.

Bear Naked Granola

I love sprinkling Bear Naked Granola on top of milk, ice cream, or yogurt. Or, if I’m in a rush, I just eat it by the handful. I save almost a dollar per bag over grocery store prices when I order 3-packs on Amazon.

Barilla Rigatoni Pasta

Barilla has been making pasta for almost 150 years. They use quality ingredients, and it shows. Although prices fluctuate, I usually save $3-$4 when I order a 12-pack on Amazon.

Quaker Rice Cakes

Quaker Rice Cakes are a low-calorie, low-fat alternative to bread and crackers. I stock them in my pantry for quick meals and easy snacks. They are $4.19 a pop at the grocery store, but I save $5 or more by buying a box of 6 on Amazon.

Ghirardelli Hot Chocolate

Ghirardelli hot chocolate is an easy, decadent dessert after dinner or on a snowy day. A fifteen-pack is almost $30 at Walmart. Luckily, you can save over $10 by buying on Amazon.

Orville Redenbacher’s Microwave Popcorn

I always keep Orville Redenbacher’s microwave popcorn on hand for movie nights and quick snacks. I buy it on Amazon because it’s usually at least $1.50 less than the grocery store.

ARM & HAMMER Plus OxiClean Laundry Detergent

Food is the only thing cheaper on Amazon. I also save money on necessities like laundry soap, which usually costs at least $1 or $2 less than at the grocery store.

Mahatma Extra-Long-Grain Rice 2-Pound Rice Bag

We incorporate rice into several meals a week at our house. Sometimes it’s a side dish or sometimes we add it to soup or casseroles. The price on Amazon is usually about .75 less than what we’d pay at the grocery store.

Cascade Platinum Dishwasher Pods

I use only Cascade Platinum dishwasher pods because my dishes come out shiny, clean, and streak-free. Right now, 78 pods are just $1 more than 59 pods at my regular grocery store. Plus, I save another 20% when I subscribe to regular deliveries.
