Town halls held on state of Nebraska’s medical cannabis program

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Another round of statewide town halls was held on medical cannabis.
The goal of these town halls is to explain the current state of Nebraska’s medical cannabis program.
Tonight’s meeting was held in Blair.
Crista Eggers, with Nebraskans for Medical Marijuana, noted the previous legislation that aimed to set up the framework for licensing, number of dispensaries and have protections and penalties for patients.
She noted that now, 18 months after the passage of the ballot, there are no doctors recommending, no patients in the state and no program up and running.
“Obviously there’s a reason all of this is happening. I believe that advocates have done their job. I believe that the voters did their job. They signed petitions, they got out and voted. And now, unfortunately, it’s in other people’s hands,” Eggers said.
In November of 2024, Nebraskans voted overwhelmingly to pass medical marijuana.
Nebraskans for Medical Marijuana will hold another town hall tomorrow night in Falls City.
