The Port Authority of Valencia is progressing its energy transition agenda through participation in the European RENMARINAS DEMOS project, an initiative supporting research, development and innovation in marine renewable energy technologies.

The project aims to promote the sustainable use of clean energy in the maritime sector, contributing to decarbonisation and improved energy efficiency across port operations.

As part of the initiative, Valenciaport has launched a tender for the design, supply and installation of two electrical power evacuation systems.

The first will connect a floating photovoltaic plant to the Port of Valencia’s medium-voltage grid, while the second will link a wave power plant to the Port of Sagunto’s medium-voltage network.

The combined project carries a budget of over EUR€1.7 million and an eleven-month completion period.

The RENMARINAS DEMOS project is funded under the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan through European Union Next Generation EU financing, channelled via Spain’s Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving.

The initiative forms part of Valenciaport’s Net Zero Emissions Plan, through which the authority aims to lead the decarbonisation of the ports of Valencia, Sagunto and Gandia through targeted action plans across each sub-sector of the port community.

The incorporation of marine renewable energy reinforces the role of Valencia and Sagunto as hubs for applied innovation and sustainability leadership within the European port system, consistent with the objectives set out in the authority’s Strategic Plan.
